Cardinal congratulates New Year’s Honours recipients.
1 January 2011
Cardinal Keith O’Brien has offered his “sincere congratulations” to Mr Gerard Eadie and Mr Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow both of whom have been recognised in the New Year Honours list. In his statement, the Cardinal said;
“I would like to offer sincere congratulations to Mr Gerard Eadie awarded a CBE in the New Year’s Honours List and to Mr Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow awarded an OBE.
I have known Gerard Eadie for over 45 years, first as a pupil who together with his brother George attended St. Columba’s High School in Cowdenbeath where I taught as a Maths and Science teacher between 1966 and 1971. I have been pleased to watch their success in business and commerce since then.
I am aware of some of the voluntary and charitable work which Gerard is involved in and am delighted that this has now been given the public recognition it rightly deserves.
It is also very fitting that Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow who founded “Mary’s Meals” should be recognised for the tremendous work he has done and continues to do in countries in desperate need around the world.
I know that Mary’s Meals are involved in many partnerships with Catholic schools and parishes across Scotland and on behalf of the Catholic Community of Scotland I offer him my warmest congratulations.”
